Pretty Kitty Watercolor

Pretty Kitty for Global Design Project #GDP078

I’d love to say that Spring is in the air. It’s March, Daylight Savings Time has started and I’ve been wearing light jackets. But nevertheless Old Man Winter just won’t go away and a blizzard warning is in effect for Eastern Massachusetts. Blah! That is not going to stop me from sharing this colorful and refreshing little card though.

I’ve been itching to share this adorable image from the Stampin’ Up! Pretty Kitty stamp set and I’ve put my foot down—I’m sharing it.

Today’s card features Pretty Kitty and Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils—a simple way to add lots of color to images like these that are begging to be colored. Here’s the sketch from Global Design Project that inspired my card:

Global Design Project #GDP078To start, I used Basic Black Archival Stampin’ Ink to stamp the image on Watercolor Paper. Using archival ink is necessary for a project like this so the ink doesn’t smudge when you apply water. Next I colored the image using Watercolor Pencils by Stampin’ Up! If you’re afraid of water coloring, you need to try this. The pencils give you all the control you need to add color—even to the smallest spaces.

You can color directly onto the image then use an Aqua Painter to activate the watercolor or you can use the Aqua Painter to pull color from the tip of the pencil like I did for the sky. That allows you to get a softer look.

Stampin' Up! Watercolor Pencil Technique

Blending colors with Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils is easy to do. The image above shows how I colored the darkest areas of the kitty with Pumpkin Pie and added a little Daffodil Delight. Next, I used an Aqua Painter to blend the color out, making it look lighter on the right side of the image. Let each color dry before adding new ones and you can always go back and add more color if it isn’t dark enough.

The cardbase was created with an A4 Soft Sky cardbase stamped with images from Falling Flowers in the same color ink. The lower portion was done the same way with Pear Pizzazz paper and ink. I embossed a greeting from Pretty Kitty just below the image.

The kitty image was cropped used a circle from Stitched Shapes Framelits. I love the little stitched detail it adds around the circle without distracting from the rest of the card. Stampin’ Dimensionals pop the kitten from the card for a added dimension. A knot of Melon Mambo Thick Baker’s Twine finishes the card.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed the card today.  Take some time this week to participate in the Global Design Project sketch challenge. This is certainly a fun one you can add to your collection.
